PACKS | Professional and academic communication & key skills
PACKS (formerly known as Basic School) is a department within the Centre of Fundamental Studies that will support you throughout your studies. Our focus is on applied communication, academic work and self-management. We offer courses, training and consultation on all matters relating to effective studying, good teamwork and academic writing. Our portfolio includes compulsory and elective modules and a variety of events at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. Through our contribution to teaching within the degree programs, participation in cross-faculty events and process-related consulting services, our team supports all faculties in fulfilling their teaching duties in terms of compulsory, compulsory elective and elective modules.

Program-specific courses
PACKS provides courses in the key competence areas of applied communication and academic work in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. The modules taught are part of the students' regular curriculum. The teaching is designed and carried out in coordination with the respective program directors and module coordinators of the respective degree program. The Centre of Fundamental Studies provides the teaching expertise and capacity for these modules as part of program-specific teaching within the respective faculty. Cross-disciplinary courses
The following opportunities offered by the Centre of Fundamental Studies are open to all students at Fachhochschule Erfurt. In the key areas of academic work and applied communication in learning and work processes, we are there to support students from the start of their studies right through to the transition to their first job. Professional advisory services and the training of key competences are among our core responsibilities. Our elective or certificate modules can be credited to your academic account and awarded up to 6 ECTS credits towards your interdisciplinary skills. You can register for our current courses in Moodle.

The writing clinic is the place to go for students who need support and feedback on their current writing projects (from term papers to final theses). In our consultation hours, we can answer individual questions about academic work, develop effective working and writing strategies and provide support services. Information & registration

The workshops on academic work and academic writing are aimed at all students at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. The elective modules are designed to complement coursework and thesis projects. Writing groups are a useful tool for students who are looking for support in developing their writing skills. Students meet regularly in the groups to work together on their texts and receive feedback. This is an opportunity to increase your own motivation in the writing project and develop writing strategies as well as providing an ideal platform for sharing ideas with like-minded people and learning from others. The aim of the Writing Fellow Program is to improve students' writing skills. The programs are aimed at teachers and students of all faculties and semesters and can be accessed by anyone, regardless of whether they are working on a term paper, Bachelor's or Master's thesis. The Writing Fellows are trained writing tutors who help students to plan, structure and improve their writing projects by providing impulses for academic writing and individual peer text feedback. The aim of the program is to encourage students to develop writing strategies and improve their writing and argumentation skills when working on their student papers. Information & contact

Students at FH Erfurt can get involved in university groups and actively participate in university committees. Through their commitment, they help to shape democratic co-operation and student life at our university.In return for this contribution, you can be awarded credits for "interdisciplinary skills" that can be counted towards your final degree.. Students can apply to have up to 2 ECTS credits recognized for student involvement per semester, subject to confirmation from the student council and the module coordinator. The extent of the workload is determined by the volume of work performed in the semester and recognition is regulated in the academic procedures and examination regulations applicable to the degree program in question and the program-specific regulations.
