Industrial Engineering for Sustainable Mobility and Logistics (B.Eng.)
Every day, people and goods are on the move, whether it’s the school run, products bought online or a trip to the supermarket. All of these everyday routines involve complex processes. In the mobility and logistics sector, these processes are calculated, planned, guided and constantly optimized - always with particular consideration of economic, ecological and social aspects.
Over 65 billion passengers and around 4.4 billion tonnes of goods are transported in Germany every year. And these figures are constantly rising. The advantages of digitalization and new propulsion concepts are paving the way for innovations in the transport sector. Are you interested in how mobility and logistics processes can be organized sustainably, efficiently and safely?
The Bachelor's degree in “Industrial Engineering for Sustainable Mobility and Logistics” equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practice-oriented skills in the fields of business, technology and planning. By learning to think and operate in an interdisciplinary manner, you will find answers to a wide range of questions, such as:
- How can transport be made more cost-effective and environmentally friendly?
- How can you make sure the right material gets to the right place at the right time in the production process?
- How can bus and rail services be made more attractive and economical?
- How are roads, junctions and cycle paths planned?
- How can the benefits of digitalization and innovative propulsion technologies be used in the transport sector?
The University of Applied Sciences Erfurt has been successfully training experts for the future of mobility and logistics since 1994. Our lecturers draw on their own expertise gained through working in research and industry.
This degree program is the successor to the B.Eng. in Traffic, Transport and Logistics Engineering, which is currently being phased out, and replaces it from Winter Semester 2022/23 onwards. As a result, sustainability will be given greater prominence.
Industrial Engineering: Experts in Technology, Business and Sustainability
Three years of practice-oriented studies in Sustainable Mobility and Logistics
This degree program is made up of an orientation phase (1st - 2nd semester) and a specialization phase (3rd - 6th semester).
The specializations offered are: Sustainable Mobility and Sustainable Logistics
In the 5th semester, you will embark on a 14-week work placement in companies or institutions outside the university.
-
In the orientation phase, you will acquire all the necessary scientific, economic, technical and legal foundations that you will need for your further studies in industrial engineering. In the first semester, particular attention is paid to sustainability and how it relates to the mobility and logistics sector.
-
After your second semester, you choose one of two specializations:
- Sustainable Mobility
- Sustainable Logistics
If you successfully complete three modules totalling 18 credits within one of the two specialist areas, the specialization can be included in your final grade report.
-
The aim of the degree program is to prepare you for your future career in the best possible way. For this reason, you will already gain valuable insights into the mobility and logistics industry during your pre-study placement, which will enable you to understand how theory and practice intersect from the very beginning of your degree program. Various practical components are incorporated into the rest of the degree program. This gives you the opportunity to learn through trial and error and from your own experience. In addition to conventional lectures, the degree program includes the following:
- Seminars
- Practicals in the labs
- Project work
- Field trips
- Input from guest speakers
- Cooperation with our research institutes proTUL and IVR
- 14 weeks on work placement in the 5th semester (also possible abroad)
- 10-week Bachelor's thesis based on practical experience
-
Located close to the city centre, the main campus at Altonaer Straße boasts modern lecture halls with excellently equipped seminar rooms. Our state-of-the-art labs ensure that your studies are characterized by their practical relevance.
The laboratories for Automotive Engineering, Telematic/Transport Systems, Geoinformation Systems and Transport Modelling, Mechatronics, Material Flow Systems and Logistics, RFID and SCM technology and Railway Engineering are used for both teaching and research. This allows you to apply and specialize the your acquired knowledge by working on project-oriented, practical problems. Some examples of practice-based research areas are the development and optimization of material flow control for internal logistics and the analysis of new propulsion concepts in vehicle technology using our own specially equipped test vehicles. In addition to the labs, we also have computer pools with up-to-date, specialist software. -
Our department is based at the main campus at Altonaer Straße 25, 99085 Erfurt, around 10 minutes’ walking distance from the city centre. We have put together a summary of what you can expect in Erfurt here.
