Thoska - Thuringian University and Student Services Card
Welcome to the thoska information website!
Thoska stands for "Thuringian University and Student Services Card". It is a multifunctional chip card that combines various ID, payment and key functions, making administrative and payment processes more efficient, faster and customer-friendly. Who has a thoska card?
At the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, all students and staff receive a thoska card as a student or staff ID.
What can the thoska card do?
The thoska card can be used for the following:
- student or staff ID card
- library card
- electronic cash-free payment
- semester ticket for public transport in Thuringia
- photocopying and printing in the library
- access and key functions
- recording staff working hours
Please note: From Winter Semester 2024/25, your semester ticket will no longer be issued on your thoska card. Instead, the semester ticket will be available as an online ticket from October 2024 via the Erfurter Verkehrsbetriebe (EVAG), and each student needs to apply for it themselves. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact EVAG or email the student coordinators at FH Erfurt: koordination@fh-erfurt.de.
New at FH Erfurt? - How to get your thoska student card
After successfully enrolling on the application portal, all first-semester students receive a thoska student ID card.
- Upload a suitable photo to the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt application portal.
- Transfer the semester fee in full and complete your enrolment.
- Your thoska student card will be sent to you by post before you start your studies.
Your semester ticket for free travel!
The thoska also acts as your semester ticket for the following public transport:
- public transport in the city of Erfurt (EVAG)
- regional Deutsche Bahn train services within Thuringia
- public transport in the VMT area (Central Thuringian Transport Association)

All you need to know about validity and revalidation
Your thoska card is valid for one semester only. When you re-enrol at the university every semester, you also have to revalidate your thoska. To do so, please use the terminals in the library, refectory, cafeteria or Student Admissions Office.
Please note:
The new validity date can only be printed on the card two to three days after you have transferred the semester fee.
New at FH Erfurt? - How to get your thoska staff ID
All members of the university - professors, staff, lecturers and student assistants - receive a thoska staff or member's ID card.
- Fill out the application for a thoska card on our process portal PIP. To do this, double-click on "Prozess starten" (start process) in the overview. As soon as your application has been approved, you will automatically receive an email.
- Your official ID card will be sent to you via internal post.
Validity and validation - everything you need to know!
Your thoska staff ID card is valid for a maximum of 5 years. Once its validity expires, you can revalidate your card at one of the terminals in the library, refectory, cafeteria or Student Admissions Office. As soon as your employment at the university ends, you have to hand in your card to the thoska office.
Thoska for electronic cash-free payment
You can use your thoska card to make cashless payments (e.g. for your lunch in the refectory or for printing costs). You can charge your thoska with your EC card at the terminals in the refectory/cafeteria or the library. At the terminal in the refectory, you can also use cash. You can also use your EC card to get a refund from the terminal in the cafeteria.
Please note: If you lose your thoska, the money on the card will also be lost and cannot be refunded. It is only possible to have the remaining balance paid out if the card is damaged, by applying for a refund of the remaining balance from Thuringian Student Services.
