Erfurt, a university city with a long tradition
With its approx. 200,000 residents, Erfurt, capital of Thuringia, is the largest city in the federal state, and it boasts a long university tradition. Erfurt is located in the heart of Germany: almost all German cities and also international capitals such as Prague can be reached within two to four hours. Erfurt has one of the most extensive areas of medieval landmarks in Germany. It is home to the Krämerbrücke, the only medieval bridge north of the Alps which has houses built on it. Equally unique in Europe is the ensemble of the Cathedral and St. Severus Church, which are captured in the city's logo. Opposite the cathedral hill you can see the Petersberg fortress with its mighty bastions, at the foot of which the traditional old town with its splendid townhouses, monasteries and churches, picturesque alleys and lively squares unfolds - punctuated again and again by the meandering course of the Gera River.
Urban and Spatial Planning at FH Erfurt
Our Urban and Spatial Planning program focuses on adopting a holistic approach to urban development and redevelopment, giving equal weight to economic, social, cultural and ecological aspects. It is very important to apply cooperative planning methods that involve all key stakeholders, especially from the business community and society at large, in the planning and development processes (urban governance/urban management). Particular attention is also paid to the specific challenges of demographic change, sustainability and globalization. Furthermore, having small groups, varied projects and suitable working spaces means we can provide the perfect conditions for creative expression in our projects.
