Senate
The Senate is the most senior self-governing body of the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt. It is made up of professory, students and employees who are elected in public and secret ballots. By virtue of his/her office, the President is a non-voting member and Chair of the Senate.
The Senate consists of nine members with voting rights, three of whom are elected from each group of university members on a proportional basis. When dealing with academic matters, the Senate will also include four professors as affiliate members with voting rights.
-
The Senate plays a decisive role in shaping the academic life of the university. This includes responsibility for setting and developing goals and strategies related to learning and teaching. It also makes decisions (sometimes with the involvement of other committees) on
- the Bylaws and other statutes and regulations
- the establishment, amendment and discontinuation of degree programs and assignment of faculties
- the establishment, amendment and dissolution of self-governing bodies, including the specification of their organizational structure
- and more
The committee also expresses views on
- nominations for professorial appointments
- the annual financial statements and annual report
and grants approval, for example, on
- before the University finalizes its target and achievement agreements with the Ministry
- funding and allocation of internal resources
The Senate is involved in electing the President/Rector and the Executive Vice-President and in electing the members of the University Council.
The Senate's other responsibilities are listed in § 16 of the Bylaws of the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt and in § 35 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act.
-
The faculties are self-governing units which are subordinate to the central management of the university and consistute the core organizational entities of the institution. The faculties have the power to form departments.
The Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Research and Transfer, and the Administration Manager (if elected) form the Deanery as the faculty's collegial governing body.
While the faculties are headed by deaneries, the faculty board is the main decision-making body for developing the faculty's teaching and research profile.
Every faculty forms at least one examination board and one academic committee.
To ensure cooperation between the faculties and a coordinated approach between faculties, the University Executive Board and the university administration, committees have been set up to address specific issues at the networking level. They both support and advise the Senate.
