The library has more than 230 workstations, some of which are very cosy! No matter what type of learner you are, we have the right place for you to work. For example, we have open-plan workstations or lockable individual "carrels".

If you're doing group work or need to discuss a project, you can work undisturbed with up to 10 people in our group rooms.

Room bookings can be made by phone, email or at the service counter.

In the basement, you can use our printers and photocopiers.

Working and studying in the library

The library is available to all visitors to work and study, and we provide a wide range of services.

  • The WiFi network "eduroam" can be used by all members of the university. Unfortunately, visitors cannot use the network.
    You can register with your university account as follows:

    ab1234cd@fh-erfurt.de (this is not your email address)

    If you experience any problems, please contact the IT administrator in your department.

    Visitors and affiliates of other universities whose home institution does not participate in "eduroam" cannot use the network.

    Alternatively, you can use our PC workstations. At the public data sockets labelled with a capital letter "A", you can access e-books, e-journals, databases and the Internet via LAN cable.

  • Activating Internet access

    You can log in with your library user number (on the back of your thoska, below the barcode) and your personal password.

    Using USB storage devices

    USB ports are located on the side of the monitors.  
    However, we advise against editing any documents stored on USB drives. Please copy the document you wish to edit into your home directory beforehand.

    Shortcut to safely remove USB devices:
    Press Strg(right) and let go , Strg(right) + Alt + X

    Access to central drives (e.g. Fundus)

    You can connect your home drive and faculty directories as follows:

    • Desktop shortcut "Netstorage login" (username = university account)
    • the driveswill appear under "Computer"

    Please disconnect the drives using "Novell-Verbindung trennen" ("disconnect Novell") or by logging out of the system.

  • How to switch on or off
    The power button is located at the back, on the bottom left. The iMac switches on automatically at 9 am and switches off at 8 pm.

    Using and removing USB sticks
    USB-A sticks (standard) can be connected in the desktop tank to the right of the computer, USB-C drives on the back right hand side of the iMac.To remove them from the appliance, right-click on the corresponding icon on the desktop and select "XXXX auswerfen".

    MS Office
    You need to register to use MS Office appliciances. In advance, students can create an FHE Microsoft account.

    iWork
    Apple's MS Office equivalents can be used without logging in. The file formats are mutually interchangeable.
    Pages = Word
    Numbers = Excel
    Keynote = Powerpoint

    iCloud
    Logging in to iCloud is disabled. Apple Music, TV+ etc. can't be used.

    Self-ServiceThe "Self Service" app includes various library documents and links (e.g. tutorials or the library regulations).

  • You need a thoska card to print or photocopy in the library. You can submit printing jobs from any computer in the library.

    Prices are as follows:

    •     per page of A4 , black and white : 0.058 euros
    •     per page ofA4, colour : 0.105 euros
    •     per page of A3, black and white: 0.116 euros
    •     per page of A3, colour: 0.21 euros
  • There are two book scanners on the ground floor of the library.

    You can create and save scans in PDF, JPG or TIFF format on your own USB stick. 
    Use is free of charge.

    Please note: Please ensure that you comply with copyright regulations.

  • You can reserve carrels and group study rooms for specific periods of time at the service desk. 

    Carrels are available with or without computers. All group study rooms are equipped with presentation technology (with VGA or HDMI connections) and can be used by up to six people.

  • We provide you with the plastic spiral bindings, which you can use to bind your own work.

    You can obtain the plastic binder spine in different sizes at the service desk. We kindly ask you to bring a plastic cover sheet and solid cardboard for the back if required.
